Knowing whether your area was in the storm track is the first step. Oklahoma hail is not random. Supercell storms follow predictable paths, and Tulsa County sits directly in the most traveled corridor in the state. If a storm moved through your zip code, your roof experienced it whether or not you saw hail in the yard.

Oklahoma sits at the intersection of cold air from the Rockies, warm moist air from the Gulf, and dry air from the southwest. That combination is exactly what produces supercell thunderstorms. How to check if your area was affected

The NWS Tulsa forecast office publishes Local Storm Reports within hours of every significant weather event. Go to weather.gov/tsa and look for Local Storm Reports under Observations. You can filter by report type and date. Look for confirmed hail reports near your address, including the reported hail size and the name of the storm that produced it.

Insurance adjusters reference NWS reports when evaluating claims. If you can identify your storm event by date, track, and reported hail size, your claim documentation is significantly stronger than if you are simply reporting "some hail came through."

After confirming a storm event, check the following from the ground: your gutters for granule buildup, your AC condenser fins for denting, your siding on west and north faces for impact marks, and your window screens for holes. Any of these showing hits means your roof almost certainly took damage too.

Once you have confirmed a storm event in your area, book a free inspection before the evidence window closes. Hail bruising fades on asphalt shingles after 60 to 90 days of UV exposure.

The claim window

Most Oklahoma homeowners insurance carriers give you 365 days from the date of loss to file a hail claim. Some carriers have tightened that to 180 days. A few specialty or surplus lines carriers go shorter. Your policy declarations page has the specific window.

The practical window for strong evidence is shorter. Document within 30 days of the storm for the best visual evidence. File within 90 days if at all possible. Late claims are not automatically denied, but they create more friction in the process and give adjusters more room to dispute the cause of damage.

Does my neighbor's damage mean my roof is damaged too?
