Original batt insulation compresses over decades and loses R-value. If you can see the floor joists clearly from the attic hatch, the insulation is too thin. Most Tulsa homes built before 1990 need a top-off at minimum.
Water damage or wet insulation after a storm

Blown-in cellulose is made from recycled paper treated with a fire retardant. It settles into irregular spaces, around obstructions, and over existing insulation. Good thermal performance per inch. Heavier than fiberglass, which can matter in attics with limited structural capacity.
Blown-in fiberglass is lighter than cellulose with similar thermal performance. Does not settle as much over time. The product of choice when weight is a consideration or when the attic has conditions where cellulose could absorb moisture.
Fiberglass batts are used for accessible open bays in attic floors and for wall cavities when a wall section is open during renovation. They are the standard new construction product. In existing attics, blown-in often outperforms batts because it fills around obstructions without gaps.
Spray foam is a specialized product used at rim joists, at top plate air-sealing locations, and occasionally in unvented attic assemblies. It is not a general attic insulation product for most residential applications. We use it surgically where it performs best.
