Shingle repair in Tulsa, OK.

A few cracked, missing, or lifted shingles is not a replacement. It is a shingle repair. We match the material, pull the damaged pieces, nail the replacements to spec, and seal the edges. Done right, you get years more life out of the rest of the roof. Done wrong, you get a temporary patch and the same problem next spring.

Q: When does cracked or missing shingle damage need to be repaired urgently?

A: If shingles are completely missing and you have exposed underlayment, repair is urgent. Water can penetrate the underlayment within a few rain events. Cracked shingles that are still in place can typically wait a few weeks, but not a full season. Get an inspection and make the call based on what the rest of the roof looks like.

Asphalt shingles are the default roofing material across the Tulsa metro. Most homes in South Tulsa subdivisions from the 1990s and 2000s, the ranch-styles in Midtown, and the newer construction in Owasso and Broken Arrow all run some variation of dimensional or three-tab asphalt. When those shingles fail, the fix is usually a shingle repair, not a whole new roof.

The failure patterns we see most often in Tulsa: wind-lifted tabs on three-tab shingles facing southwest. Hail impacts on older shingles with depleted granule coverage. Thermal cracking on steep south-facing slopes after consecutive freeze-thaw cycles in January and February. And shingle tabs that were under-nailed during original install and have been slowly working loose for years.

The repair is worth doing on a roof with remaining life. We evaluate the whole roof during the initial inspection and give you an honest read on whether a repair is a good investment or a delay. See our free inspection and roof repair pages for more.

Shingle damage types

Six failure patterns we repair.

Each one has a different cause and a different repair method. We match the fix to the failure.
01

Missing shingles

Wind events pull complete shingles off the deck. The exposed underlayment is a temporary barrier that will fail within a few rain events. Replace immediately.

02

Cracked or split shingles

Thermal expansion and contraction, hail impact, or manufacturing defects can crack the shingle mat. Cracked shingles allow water infiltration even when they appear intact.

03

Lifted or curling tabs

Three-tab shingles with failed seal strips curl at the edges. Wind gets underneath. The next storm takes the tab completely. Re-sealing is a temporary fix. Replacement is the real answer.

04

Granule loss patches

Areas of visible black or dark-gray on the shingle surface indicate granule loss. These sections age at an accelerated rate and represent the weakest points on the roof.

05

Hail-bruised shingles

Hail impact marks look like dark circular spots on the shingle surface. The underlying mat is damaged even when the surface looks intact. Insurance claims are the common resolution.

06

Blistered or bubbled shingles

Blisters in the shingle surface are caused by moisture trapped during manufacturing or by inadequate attic ventilation. Blistered shingles lose granules rapidly and fail early.

Why AE Roofing

We do not patch over the problem. We fix it.

A shingle repair done wrong looks like this: the damaged shingle gets caulked to the one below it, the nail pattern is wherever is convenient, and the new shingle sits proud because the installer did not remove the damaged one first. It holds for one season. Then the callback happens.

We remove the damaged shingle completely, nail the replacement in the manufacturer-specified zone, and activate the seal strip. The repair sits flush with the surrounding shingles and bonds as designed. That is not complicated work. It just requires doing it the right way. We do shingle repairs the same way we do full replacements: by the spec, every time.

Questions about
your shingles.

There is no hard number. The question is whether the rest of the roof is in serviceable condition. If you have 10 damaged shingles on a roof with 8 good years left, repair makes sense. If you have 10 damaged shingles on a roof with widespread granule loss and failing adhesion across three slopes, you are throwing money at a replacement that is coming anyway.
On roofs installed within the last 7 to 10 years with current product lines, we can usually get a close match. On older roofs or discontinued products, we get as close as the current inventory allows and tell you upfront what to expect. No surprises.
Wind damage that removes shingles is typically a covered loss under standard Oklahoma homeowner policies. The claim is worth filing if the damage scope is significant enough to exceed your deductible. We help you determine that before you file.
The technique is similar but the materials differ. Three-tab shingles have a flat single-tab profile. Architectural shingles are laminated and thicker. We carry both in common colors for repair work. The nailing pattern and sealant application method differ between the two.
Cracked shingles are compromised. The crack allows water to get past the asphalt layer to the mat beneath. Whether you replace them now or monitor depends on how widespread the cracking is and the age of the roof. We give you an honest assessment.
Granules are the colored aggregate embedded in the asphalt surface of the shingle. They protect the asphalt from UV degradation. When granules shed, the asphalt dries out, cracks, and loses flexibility. A shingle without granules ages several times faster than an intact one.
